How to Fix Uhmegle Camera Problems
Most Uhmegle camera problems come from browser permission, another app using the camera, or mobile browser limits. Start by checking the permission prompt, closing other camera apps, and reloading uhmegle.social.

This guide walks through the fastest checks first, then deeper fixes for desktop and mobile browsers.
Diagnosis
Quick Camera Diagnosis
Run through these five causes in order. Most fixes take under a minute.
Browser permission
Your browser may have blocked camera access. Look for the blocked-icon in the address bar or check site settings.
Microphone permission
Video chat usually needs both camera and microphone. If either is blocked, the call may fail.
Camera already in use
Another tab, app, or video call may be holding the camera. Close it and reload the page.
Mobile browser limit
Some mobile browsers restrict camera access more tightly than desktop browsers.
Device or hardware issue
A broken camera, missing driver, or privacy switch can also show a black feed.
Audio
Microphone Permission Matters Too
Video chat on Uhmegle needs audio as well as video. If the microphone is blocked, the session may not start even when the camera is working.
Reset microphone permission the same way you reset camera permission: address-bar site settings in Chrome, Safari settings for the website, or the permissions icon in Firefox.
If you only want text, tap Try Text Chat instead. Text mode does not need camera or microphone access.

In use
Camera Already in Use
Your operating system usually lets only one app or tab use the camera at a time. If another program has it open, Uhmegle will show a black or frozen feed.
Close video calls in other tabs, quit camera apps like Zoom or FaceTime, and stop any recording software. Then reload uhmegle.social.
On Windows, check the camera LED. On macOS, look for the green indicator. On phones, swipe away other apps that recently used the camera.
Mobile
Mobile Camera Problems
On phones, camera access depends on the mobile browser and operating system. Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android both work, but each handles permissions differently.
On iPhone, Safari asks once per site. If you tapped Don’t Allow, go to Settings > Safari > Camera to change it. Also make sure Low Power Mode or Screen Time restrictions are not blocking camera use.
On Android, Chrome shows the permission prompt near the bottom. If you denied it, open Chrome Settings > Site Settings > Camera, find uhmegle.social, and allow access.

Device
Browser and Device Checks
If permissions are correct and no other app is using the camera, the issue may be the browser itself or the device hardware.
- Update your browser to the latest version. Older versions can have camera bugs.
- Try an incognito or private window. Extensions sometimes block camera access.
- Restart your device. This clears hidden camera locks from background apps.
- Test the camera in another app or on another site. If it fails everywhere, the camera hardware may need repair.
